On the occasion of the relaunch of Education About Asia, we pay tribute to the the journal’s founding Editor, Lucien Ellington, and acknowledge Lucien’s groundbreaking work and accomplishments.
In spring 1996, under Lucien's editorship, the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) published the inaugural volume of Education About Asia. For twenty-eight years, until his retirement in 2023, Lucien’s clear vision and wide-ranging knowledge of the educational landscape ensured that Education About Asia remained the premier peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the teaching of Asian Studies. During Lucien's tenure, the AAS published eighty-one issues of Education About Asia—close to 2,000 feature articles, lesson plans, interviews, classroom resources, and book and film reviews—all available to view and download from the Education About Asia website.
It is with deepest appreciation for his decades-long service and tireless dedication to (in his own words) “enhancing student understanding of Asia and building bridges between colleges, universities, and schools,” that we present our video tribute to Lucien.
